چکیده

Abstract Effluents from municipal wastewater treatment plants (MWTPs) are complex mixtures of chemicals including endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) and 17?-ethynylestradiol (EE2). The objective this study was to evaluate selected responses two fish species, in different years, exposed situ MWTP effluent. Biological markers exposure (plasma vitellogenin (VTG) antioxidant enzymes) were measured species male fish, rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas), caged at sites associated with outfall. estrogenicity the final effluent 2010 determined be 17.0 + 0.4 ng/L estrogen equivalents (EEQ) reduced 7.5 2.9 EEQ after infrastructure upgrades. Pharmaceuticals personal care products surface water both years confirmed exposures each downstream site. Despite presence estrogenic effluent, no effluent-caged demonstrated plasma VTG induction. Minnows that received an intraperitoneal injection 5 mg/g EE2 showed induction field sites. In 2012, liver somatic index (LSI) increased exposure, as did changes enzymes, reactive oxygen (ROS) activity. Multiple biological mechanisms modified by multiple endpoints needed assess risk.

Uptake of Some Elements with Aquatic Plants Exposed to the Effluent of Wastewater Treatment Plant

In this study, in the removal of macro (P, S, Na, K, Ca, Mg) and micro (Sb, Ba, Co, Cu, Fe, Pb, Mn, Hg, Mo, Se, Ag, Zn) elements in the effluent of Elazig Wastewater Treatment Plant, the efficiency of Lemna minor L. and Lemna gibba L. has been studied comparatively. For this aim, fronds of these plants have been adapted to the effluent of the treatment plant that feeds pilot scale reactors. The...

Demasculinization of male fish by wastewater treatment plant effluent.

Adult male fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas) were exposed to effluent from the City of Boulder, Colorado wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) under controlled conditions in the field to determine if the effluent induced reproductive disruption in fish. Gonadal intersex and other evidence of reproductive disruption were previously identified in white suckers (Catostomus commersoni) in Boulder C...

Nutrient Elimination from Effluent of Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Applying Horizontal Roughing Filter

High levels of turbidity and suspended solids are the major disadvantages of aerated lagoons. Aerated lagoon effluent filtration was investigated by Horizontal Roughing Filter (HRF). Removal efficiencies were determined by examining total phosphorus (TP) and total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN) from HRF influent and effluent, simultaneously. HRF pilot system located on effluent pump station of Qom was...

Pharmaceuticals in Wastewater Treatment Plant Effluent Waters

Pharmaceuticals are being used at an increasing rate, and end up in wastewater through excretion and disposal. They also end up in the effluent water of wastewater treatment plants because they are not specifically designed for pharmaceutical removal. Several studies suggest diverse negative effects on aquatic life that are exposed to these trace amounts of pharmaceuticals in their habitats. Th...
